Rutgers Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY - The Rutgers men's soccer team outshot its 12th opponent of the season but could not register a goal, dropping a 2-0 decision to Syracuse in BIG EAST action Wednesday night in Syracuse, NY. With the loss, the Scarlet Knights fall to 5-7-3 overall and 2-4-2 in conference action. The Orange improve to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST.
SU's Jeff Evans got things going for the Orange in the 26th minute, opening a 1-0 lead with a goal from five yards out off assists from Mike McCallion and Alejandro Nuno. The Orange opened the second half with a second goal less than five minutes into the period. Syracuse's Isaac Collings sent a shot that deflected of Rutgers goalkeeper Lubos Ancin (Burlington, NJ). Brad Peetom corralled the rebound and scored in the 50th minute to put the Orange up, 2-0.
Rutgers outshot Syracuse, 13-8, in the match. The Scarlet Knights' attack was aggressive in the second half, outshooting the Orange, 10-5, in the second period. Rutgers has outshot 12 of its 15 opponents this season, combining for a 205-108 advantage in shots in 15 matches.
Ancin made four saves for the Scarlet Knights, surrendering multiple goals for just the third time all season. Alim Karim made two stops in earning the shutout for Syracuse.
Rutgers will return home to face fifth-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday at Yurcak Field at 7 p.m.
