May 19 | Softball
PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers senior Nikki Childress (Roanoke, VA) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region First Team.
Childress, who divided her time between catcher, left field and designated player this season, was named to the first team as a designated player. Earlier this month, she was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
Childress led Rutgers this season with a .350 batting average, 12 home runs, 29 runs-batted-in, 26 runs scored and a .657 slugging percentage. She ranked third in slugging percentage, tied for fourth in home runs, sixth in batting average and 10th in on-base percentage (.407) in the BIG EAST. Childress, a two-year letterwinner for the Scarlet Knights after transferring from Florida Community College, owns the RU single-season (12, 2004) and career (20) home run records.
This marks Childress’ second consecutive NFCA all-region honor, earning second-team accolades last year. She will now be considered for NFCA All-America honors, which will be announced at the College World Series later this month.
Rutgers finished the 2004 season with a 25-29-1 overall record and an 8-12 mark in the BIG EAST.
