Rutgers Rolls Past Maryland-Eastern Shore 92-50

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Junior guard Quincy Douby had a game-high 18 points, added five steals and dished out four assists, and Rutgers was in control throughout in a 92-50 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore Wednesday night.
Freshman point guard Anthony Farmer added 15 points and five assists for Rutgers (6-1), which won its third straight, while the Hawks (2-6) lost for the fifth time in six games. It was the first time in Farmer's brief career that he did not increase his point total from the previous game. He scored a career-high 16 against Saint Mary's in Rutgers' last victory.
Freshman forward JR Inman added 12 points, five rebounds four blocks and three steals for Rutgers. Junior center Byron Joynes, freshman swingman Jaron Griffin and sophomore forward Ollie Bailey each had 10 points as Rutgers had six players in double figures for the first time since 2003. Joynes added 10 rebounds as he posted his first career ‘double-double.’
Ed Tyson had 11 for UMES, while Tim Parham and Terrell Harris had 10 each to lead the Hawks.
Rutgers stormed to a 14-0 lead and opened its largest lead at 32-11 but the Hawks fought back to draw to within 12 points before the half ended at 46-32. Harris kept the Hawks within striking distance with 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting.
Holding a 48-34 lead early in the second half, Rutgers scored 10 straight points and UMES never got the deficit under 20 for the rest of the game.
Rutgers, which entered the game tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, limited Maryland Eastern Shore to just 50 points, marking the third time in seven games this season that the Scarlet Knights have held an opponent to 50 points or less in a game. For the season, Rutgers is limiting its opponents to an average of 55.6 points per game
Rutgers is next in action on Saturday at 7-1 Buffalo. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

MOST POINTS AND LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY SINCE…
The 92 points Rutgers scored against Maryland Eastern Shore is the most since the Scarlet Knights defeated Northern Colorado 102-52 on Feb. 17, 2004. RU's 42 point triumph is the largest margin of victory since its 50 point victory over the Bears.
DOUBY REACHES 1,000 POINT PLATEAU
With a three-point field goal at the 16:05 mark in the second half, junior guard Quincy Douby became the 34th member of the Rutgers 1,000 point club. Douby scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 behind the three-point arc. Douby also added four assists and two rebounds. He now has 1,000 career points.
DOUBY DEFENSE
In addition to his outstanding offensive performance, junior guard Quincy Douby topped his previous career-high of four steals (Seton Hall, 2/8/05) with five in 27 minutes of action against Maryland Eastern Shore.
JOYNES FIRST CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Junior center Byron Joynes scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds en route to his first career double-double performance. It also marks Joynes' second double-digit rebounding effort of the season. He pulled down 10 in a 55-52 victory over Kent State at the South Padre Island Invitational on Nov. 25.
SECOND CONSECUTIVE DOUBLE-DOUBLE FOR RU PLAYER
Junior center Byron Joynes' 10 point, 10 rebound outing against the Hawks marked the second consecutive double-double by a Rutgers player. Junior guard Quincy Douby registered 36 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-69 win against St. Mary's (CA) on Dec. 3.
RUTGERS DEFENSE
Rutgers, which entered the game tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, limited Maryland Eastern Shore to just 50 points on Wednesday. It marked the third time in seven games this season that the Scarlet Knights have held an opponent to 50 points in a game. For the season, Rutgers is limiting its opponents to an average of 55.6 points per game, while the Scarlet Knights' offense is averaging 65.9 points per contest. RU's defense has forced its opponents into a .379 (128-of-338) field goal percentage for the season.

MORE DEFENSE…
The 10 blocks are the most since Rutgers tallied 11 in a 72-60 victory over Villanova on March 24, 2004. It also marked the last time the Scarlet Knights had double figures in both blocks (11) and steals (12) in the same game.
The 16 steals against Maryland Eastern Shore are the most since RU posted 17 at Auburn almost exactly three years to the day, on Dec. 8, 2002.
SIX SCARLET KNIGHTS RECORD DOUBLE FIGURES
Rutgers benefited from a well-balanced offensive attack, as six Scarlet Knights posted double figures. It marks the first time RU achieved the feat since the 2003 season, when Rutgers defeated LSU 80-54 on Dec. 20.

RUTGERS IMPROVES TO 5-0 AGAINST THE MEAC
Rutgers improved to 5-0 against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with its 92-50 win over Maryland Eastern Shore. It is the Scarlet Knights’ second victory against a MEAC member this season after defeating Delaware State 49-42. RU will play a third MEAC institutions this season, when it hosts South Carolina State on Dec. 17.
