Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Upends No. 18 Yale, 10-7
Mar 15 | Women's Lacrosse
ORLANDO, FL - Sophomore Katie Batiuk (Jackson, NJ) helped the Rutgers women's lacrosse team kick off its spring break trip to Florida on a high note with four goals to lead the Scarlet Knights to a 10-7 victory over No. 18 Yale at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando. With the win, Rutgers evened its record to 2-2 this season, while Yale falls to 2-2.
Batiuk joined senior Lindsay Rising (Malvern, PA) with multiple goals in the contest. Rising netted a pair of scores in the Scarlet Knight victory. Batiuk has 11 goals in four games this season.
Junior Emily Widrick (Carthage, NY), sophomore Sarah Soden (Monroe Township, NJ), and freshmen Kate Shomo (Medford Lakes, NJ) and Rachel Bruce (Arnold, MD) each scored a single goal for the Scarlet Knights.
Widrick and Shomo have scored in all four contests this season. Widrick is second on the team in scoring with nine goals, while Shomo has six scores so far this season.
Just a day after being named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, senior goalie Lyndsey Feldman (Ft. Myers, FL) made 10 saves against the Bulldogs. She has registered double-digit stops in each of Rutgers' four games in 2005.
Yale still leads the all-time series, 9-6, but the Scarlet Knights own a 2-1 record against the Bulldogs under third-year Rutgers head coach Laura Brand.
Rutgers is idle for more than week before returning to action next Wednesday, March 23, to host Bucknell at 5 p.m. in the first of three-consecutive home games for the Scarlet Knights.
