PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers men's soccer head coach Bob Reasso was recently honored as a 'Loyal Son of Rutgers' by the Rutgers Alumni Association.
Reasso, who will begin his 25th season as Rutgers' head coach in the fall, was presented with a plaque by Rutgers University president Richard L. McCormick at a reception April 9, at the Neilson Dining Hall on the University's Cook/Douglass Campus.
'Rutgers is a huge part of my life,' said Reasso. 'This will be my 25th season and I have loved each and every minute of it. It really hit me when I was accepting the award amongst such a distinguished group what a tremendous honor this is. This is something I will cherish for a lifetime.'
Reasso is one of just six head coaches who graduated from a university other than Rutgers to be honored as a 'Loyal Son of Rutgers.'
Reasso took over as the head coach of the men's soccer program in 1981. The Scarlet Knights have made the NCAA Championship 12 times, reaching the College Cup on three different occasions, including the 1990 championship game, under his tutelage. Reasso's teams have produced 23 winning seasons and 325 victories in his 24-year tenure at the helm of the Scarlet Knights. He began last season ninth nationally among active coaches in career victories. Reasso has led the Scarlet Knights to six league championships. He is the longest serving men's soccer coach in the program's history.
Reasso is a staple of the Rutgers community, speaking at various alumni engagements, dedicating the past 24 years to the well-being of the soccer program and the university as a whole. He begins his silver-anniversary season 'On the Banks' this fall with the same love for the program and the University as the day he took over as men's soccer head coach in 1981.
