PISCATAWAY, NJ – Chris Cochran has been hired as an assistant softball coach at Rutgers University, head coach Pat Willis announced today.
Cochran most recently served four years with the Iowa State coaching staff, spending her first season as an assistant before being elevated to associate head coach in 2002. Among her many responsibilities while at ISU were recruiting, skill development, practice design and scouting.
Prior to arriving at ISU, Cochran was the head softball coach at Brown (1998-2001), where she helped develop two Brown Female Athletes of the Year. She also had stints as an assistant coach at Marshall (1995-1998) and Ball State (1992-1994).
Cochran began her coaching career in 1986 at Clear Creek HS in Tiffin, IA, where she coached both the softball and basketball teams. While at Clear Creek, she led the softball squad to three consecutive state tournaments, and in 1991, she was named the District Softball Coach of the Year.
In addition, Cochran has shared her nearly 20 years of experience, at numerous coaching camps and clinics across the nation.
Cochran was a four-year member of the softball team at the University of Iowa (1981-1984), where she earned the Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics Award. In 1986, she received a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in health education.
“I am thrilled to have Chris join our program,” said Willis. “She brings a tremendous deal of experience on the Division I level and her expertise in hitting will play a major part in the success of our team.”
