Rutgers Announces 2007 Spring Softball Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -The Rutgers softball team has announced its 2007 spring schedule. The season kicks-off at the Texas A & M Tournament in mid-February, and will conclude with a home game against DePaul on May 6. The schedule is highlighted by four spring tournaments as well as eight home contests.
The Scarlet Knights will begin their spring season at the Texas A & M Tournament from Feb.
16-18. Rutgers will play in two games against opponents still to be determined, with the championship game being held on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1:15 p.m.
The team will next participate in the Elon Tournament in Burlington, N.C., from Feb. 23-25. Rutgers will again face two opponents yet to be determined, with the championship game scheduled for Feb. 25 at 1:15 p.m.
From March 2-4, Rutgers will take part in a series of games at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Rutgers will play two games, with the championship game being played on March 4 at 2:00 p.m.
RU will then play Drexel University in a single game on March 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Philadelphia, Pa. Following the game at Drexel, the Scarlet Knights will play in the FAU Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. from March 11-18, their final tournament of the spring season. Rutgers is scheduled to play against the University of Massachusetts, Quinnipiac University, Texas A & M, and FAU during the week-long tournament. The finals will be played on March 8, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Following the FAU Tournament, Rutgers will play at Hofstra on Thursday, March 22, at 2:30 p.m. in a doubleheader.
On Sunday, March 25, Rutgers will host its first home game of the 2007 campaign when the Scarlet Knights welcomes St. Peter's for a double-header beginning at 12:00 p.m. On Wednesday, March 28, the team will play its second-straight home context, welcoming Princeton for a single game at 3:00 p.m. Rutgers will end the month of March and begin BIG EAST play with a doubleheader at the University of South Florida on Friday, March 30, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
April opens with three-straight road games, including two against BIG EAST opponents. On Sunday, April 1, the team will face opponent Louisville in a BIG EAST doubleheader at 12:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 7, the Scarlet Knights will play conference opponent Villanova, also in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. The team will wrap up the three-game road trip at Rider University on Tuesday, April 10, with a single game scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
Rutgers then returns home for three games, beginning with a doubleheader against BIG EAST rival St. John's on Saturday, April 14, at 12:00 p.m. Seton Hall will travel to Rutgers for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 15, at 12:00 p.m. The home stand will wrap-up with a doubleheader against Monmouth on Wednesday, April 18, at 3:00 p.m.
On April 21 and 22, Rutgers will play back-to-back BIG EAST road games. On April 21, RU will play a doubleheader at Providence beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by another doubleheader at UConn on April 22, also beginning at 12:00 p.m.
RU rounds-out the month of April with a doubleheader at home against Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m., followed by road games at Syracuse on Saturday, April 28, and Pittsburgh on Sunday, April 29. Both road games are doubleheaders beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Rutgers wraps-up its regular season by hosting BIG EAST opponents Notre Dame and DePaul on Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6. Both are doubleheaders, scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
The BIG EAST Tournament is slated for May 10-12, with times and locations yet to be determined.
The 2007 Scarlet Knights, under the direction of first-year head coach Jay Nelson, return many starters from last season, while also welcoming three talented freshmen to the squad. The team, having recently wrapped-up a challenging fall schedule, will look to improve upon last season's 15-37 record.
