Rutgers Announces Field Hockey Schedule

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers has announced its 2006 field hockey schedule, a slate that includes nine games at the RU Stadium Complex.
The Scarlet Knights will begin their campaign with five straight games on the road. RU will open the season at Drexel Saturday, Aug. 26, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a contest at West Chester Sunday, Aug. 27, at 1:00 p.m. RU will play at Lafayette Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 7:00 p.m., at Temple Saturday, Sept. 2, at 11:00 a.m., and against American Sunday, Sept. 3, at 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia. The contest against the Eagles will mark the first of three for Rutgers this season against 2005 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, as American reached the second round of last year's championship.
Rutgers will make its first home appearance Friday, Sept. 8, against William & Mary at 7:30 p.m. RU will also host Delaware Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1:00 p.m., Syracuse Friday, Sept. 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Albany Sunday, Sept. 17, at 12:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights will play at Villanova Friday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m. in their second BIG EAST Conference game of the season prior to hosting Penn Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
RU will welcome Saint Joseph's to the Stadium Complex Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 8:00 p.m., then travel to Providence to face the Friars in a BIG EAST clash Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 p.m. The Scarlet Knights will host Georgetown, a first-year field hockey member of the BIG EAST, Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m., prior to a contest at Connecticut Saturday, Oct. 14, at 1:00 p.m. The Huskies won the 2005 BIG EAST Tournament and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Scarlet Knights will finish the weekend in Amherst, MA, facing Vermont Sunday, Oct. 15, at 3:00 p.m. Rutgers will host BIG EAST foe Louisville Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:00 p.m. and Cornell Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. before ending the regular season at 2005 NCAA Tournament participant Princeton Sunday, Oct. 29 (time TBA).
The top four teams in the conference standings will qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. The semifinals and final will be hosted by Louisville Nov. 3 and 5.
The Scarlet Knights posted a 7-12 overall record and a 0-5 mark in BIG EAST play last season under the direction of head coach Elizabeth Tchou. Eleven letterwinners and seven starters will return from last season's squad, and they will be joined by 10 newcomers "On the Banks" this fall.
