Men's Lacrosse Announces Spring Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's lacrosse team has released its 2007 spring schedule. The Scarlet Knights' schedule is highlighted by six ECAC games, including a game against 2006 NCAA runner-up UMass.
The Scarlet Knights, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Jim Stagnitta, will once again play a very demanding schedule. The team begins the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 24, at Butler and wraps up the season at home against UMass Saturday, May 5. RU will play six of 13 regular season games on its home turf, Yurcak Field. In addition to playing seven road games, Rutgers will face seven ECAC opponents, including UMass.
Rutgers starts the regular season with three consecutive road games, beginning Saturday, Feb. 24, against Butler at 12:00 p.m. The following weekend, RU travels to play Delaware on Saturday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m. The Scarlet Knights begin ECAC competition Saturday, March 10, against Fairfield at a time still to be determined.
The team returns to Yurcak Field Tuesday, March 13, to face Princeton at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, March 16, Rutgers welcomes Army at 7:00 p.m. March ends with two more road games, beginning with an ECAC game at Hobart on Saturday, March 24, at 1:00 p.m. The following weekend, RU travels to take on another ECAC opponent, St. John's, on Saturday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m.
Manhattan visits Rutgers Tuesday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m., followed by another home game against Loyola on Saturday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m. Rutgers then hits the road to play Syracuse on Saturday, April 14, at 1:00 p.m. April ends with a home game against ECAC opponent Penn State on Saturday, April 21, at 1:00 p.m., followed by an away game against another ECAC opponent, Georgetown, on Saturday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights conclude their regular season at home against UMass, when the Minutemen visit Yurcak Field on Saturday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. UMass played in the 2006 NCAA championship game, losing to Virginia, 11-10, in overtime.
Rutgers will prepare for its demanding regular season with three preseason scrimmages. The Scarlet Knights will host an all-day event on Saturday, Feb. 10 when Bucknell and Hofstra will travel to take on Rutgers in a pair of scrimmages beginning at 10:00 a.m. On Saturday, Feb. 17, Rutgers will travel to play Penn in its final exhibition game at a time to be determined.
The 2007 Scarlet Knights return their top three scorers from last season and will be infused by a talented 13-man recruiting class. Playing one of the nation's toughest schedules, the 2006 Scarlet Knights fashioned a 5-9 mark with a lineup that featured six freshmen and dropped four one-goal games.
