PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers field hockey team (3-4) has received votes in the Sept. 12 STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Top 20 Coaches Poll. Garnering four votes to tie for 31st place, RU received its first acknowledgement in the poll since Sept. 13, 2005, when the Scarlet Knights received two votes (38th place).
Rutgers is 3-4 overall after a dramatic 5-4 double-overtime victory against Delaware Sept. 10. Prior to that victory, RU was just edged out 2-0 by a pair of ranked teams, No. 6 American Sept. 3 and No. 17 William & Mary Sept. 8. The Scarlet Knights have received strong individual efforts from several players, including sophomore Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.), a selection to the Aug. 28 and Sept. 11 BIG EAST Conference Honor Rolls who leads the team with 20 points (10 goals); junior Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, Pa.), who was picked to the Sept. 4 and Sept. 11 BIG EAST Honor Rolls and owns a 2.40 goals-against average; and freshman Kristen Johnson (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), who has tallied 17 points (five goals, seven assists).
Rutgers will begin BIG EAST play Friday, Sept. 15, when the Scarlet Knights host Syracuse at 7:30 p.m.
