Rutgers Tests No. 6 American in 2-0 Loss

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Rutgers field hockey team (2-3) tested No. 6 American (3-2), holding the Eagles scoreless for 50 minutes, but eventually lost 2-0 Sept. 3 at the Temple Invitational in Philadelphia, PA.
RU played tough against the Eagles, keeping the game scoreless until the 51st minute when the Eagles cashed in off a rebound. American scored again a minute later off a penalty corner to go up 2-0 and essentially put the game away. Rutgers' defense helped hold the Scarlet Knights in the contest, led by junior Rosalyn Wentko's (Dallas, PA) career-high 13 saves.
"I thought we played a lot better today than we did against Temple (3-2 loss Sept. 2)," said fourth-year Rutgers head coach Liz Tchou. "It was nice to be able to come back from the loss and play well. We were disappointed that we did not compete better yesterday, but today we were 100 percent better.
"We were able to stick to our game plan against American," Tchou continued. "It was scoreless at halftime, and we played 60 minutes of really strong hockey. We had a few little breakdowns and they were able to capitalize on those. Rosalyn was great again today and made some unbelievable saves, and Corinne (Bach) and the rest of our backs were able to really possess the ball out of the back."
"We came out really strong today and were hard on the ball," said Wentko. "We played really well as a team overall. It's hard to lose, but we know now how well we can play versus a top-notch team."
After playing its first five games away from Piscataway, Rutgers will finally make its home debut Friday, Sept. 8, when the Scarlet Knights host William & Mary at 7:30 p.m.
