COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior midfielder Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) scored four times and senior Corinne Bach had two assists to become the all-time assist leader as the Rutgers University field hockey team defeated Georgetown 8-2 on Friday at the University of Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
The two assists by Bach pushed her career total to 36, moving her one above Valerie Coyle (1992-95/35) in the RU record book. Senior Marielle Zibman, junior Karen Brewster, freshmen Heather Garces and Jenna Bull each scored a goal for RU. The win was the first BIG EAST victory of the year for the Scarlet Knights (8-10, 1-5). The Hoyas fall to 2-15 and 0-6 in league play.
Georgetown scored the game's first goal less than two minutes into the contest. Rutgers netted the equalizer at the 12:01 mark when Bull scored an unassisted goal as she battled for the ball against a GU defender and sunk it past Hoya goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo. Lewis would erupt for the next three goals over a nine-minute span to give Rutgers a commanding 4-1 lead.
After a goal by GU, Zibman found the cage from the right side off an assist by sophomore Jessika Hoh with 17 seconds to go before the half.
The Scarlet Knights added to their advantage in the second half with Lewis slipping past the Hoyas goalie and firing into the open goal. The score was Lewis' team-leading 19th of the fall.
Garces and Brewster would tally the final two scores for the team's eighth win of the season. The eight wins match the most for the program since 2000.
Rutgers returns home for senior day on Sunday, Oct. 28. They entertain Columbia at 1:00 at RU Stadium Complex.
