Apr 24 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Freshman goalie Bill Olin (Horseheads, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week and teammate Justin Pennington (Flemington, N.J.) was named the conference's Rookie of the Week following the Scarlet Knights' (5-5, 3-2) 8-7 double-overtime win against conference rival Penn State on April 22. The honor is the first for Olin, while Pennington earns his fourth Rookie of the Week accolade of the spring.
Olin held Penn State to just seven goals in RU's victory on Sunday. He made a career-high 18 saves on the day, including two critical saves in the first overtime period. He held the Nittany Lions to just two third quarter goals and without a goal in either overtime session. Olin also stopped a game-high five shots in the second quarter. For the season, Olin is allowing just 7.34 goals-per-game, the best average in the ECAC.
Pennington earned his fourth Rookie of the Week award after scoring two goals against the Nittany Lions, including the game-winner in double-overtime. Pennington's first goal gave RU a 2-0 lead in a game where every goal counted. Then, in double-overtime, he got a breakaway and scored the unassisted game-winner with 2:35 remaining. Pennington also went 3-of-6 in the face-off circle and took eight shots against Penn State, the second-highest total on the team. Pennington's 16 goals this season are good for second on the team, while he leads the Scarlet Knights with 38 groundballs.
The Scarlet Knights will look for their second-straight win when they travel to conference opponent Georgetown on Saturday, April 28, for a 1:00 p.m. match-up.
