TAMPA, Fla. – Sophomore Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) posted a match-high 13 kills, the third most of her career, but it wasn’t enough as the Rutgers volleyball team dropped a BIG EAST tilt against South Florida at The Corral Friday night.
The 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-19) loss drops RU to 1-16 overall and 0-7 in BIG EAST play. USF improves to 15-8 on the year and 5-3 in league play.
In addition to her 13 kills, Saxton also had a team-high 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Freshman setter Kallie Pence (College Station, Texas) posted a team-high 24 assists for the Scarlet Knights.
South Florida was led by Marcela Gurgel, who tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Teammate Nakia Williams also recorded 11 kills for the Bulls.
Rutgers will complete its weekend road trip Sunday at Georgetown. The Scarlet Knights topped the Hoyas last year, 3-2 in New Brunswick.
