Feb 25 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's lacrosse team, fresh off a 13-4 win over previously ranked UMBC Sunday, made its return into the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Coaches Poll announced on Monday. The Scarlet Knights, who ended last season ranked in the top-20, enter this week's poll at No. 18.
After winning three of its final four games in 2007, RU ended last season ranked No. 18 in the USILA poll and No. 19 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Poll.
Rutgers (1-0) topped UMBC 13-4 in its season opener Sunday. The Scarlet Knights have won their last six season openers. Junior Mike Dugan (Summit, N.J.) and freshman Kory Kelly (Princeton, N.J.) each tallied three goals to pace the Scarlet Knights' potent scoring attack.
Johns Hopkins received eight of the 13 first place votes to garner the top spot, while Duke captured five first place votes to come in at No. 2. Maryland, Virginia and Cornell rounded out the top five in the poll.
In the latest Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll, also released today, RU was second in the others receiving votes category.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action on Saturday as they host No. 12 Delaware in a non-conference game at RU Turf Field. The top-20 battle is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
