Rutgers Softball Hosts Final BIG EAST Weekend

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers softball team (18-24, 3-9 BIG EAST) heads into its final home stand this weekend with two doubleheaders against BIG EAST opponents. The Scarlet Knights take on Providence Saturday, April 19, at 12:00 p.m. and Connecticut Sunday, April 20 also at noon.
Rutgers is coming off an 8-3 win at Monmouth in a game where junior Sarah Kalka (Moreno Valley, Calif.) recorded three hits and knocked in two RBI. Sophomore pitcher Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) went 6.0 innings and only allowed two earned runs and five hits to improve to 7-4 on the season.
The Scarlet Knights are currently third in the BIG EAST with eight triples, fourth in runs scored (164), and RBI (143), and sixth in on-base-percentage (.337) and hits (279).
The Friars enter the game 18-18-2 overall and 4-6 in BIG EAST play. They are led by junior Mary Rose Sheehy and sophomore Christy Becker. Sheehy's batting .404 to go along with 24 RBI and Becker has belted six home runs and driven in 26 RBI.
Connecticut (20-16, 7-3 BIG EAST) is led by junior Sarah Neuschwander who's batting .324 to go along with five home runs and 22 RBI.
On Sunday, Rutgers seniors Mallory Miller, Shantai Dixon, Ashley Hartley and Christine Royland will play in their final home games as Scarlet Knights. Rutgers will honor the group prior to game one.
