BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Rutgers softball team (23-32) closed out its 2008 season with a 4-0 lost at LIU (31-15) on Thursday evening. Four Scarlet Knights, seniors Shantai Dixon (Sayreville, N.J.), Ashley Hartley (Ripon, Calif.), Mallory Miller (Anaheim, Calif.) and Christine Royland (Westwood, N.J.), played in the final contest of their collegiate careers.

The Blackbirds took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added on two more runs in the fifth to come away with the 4-0 victory.

Freshman Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) led Rutgers at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Miller, Hartley, and junior Amanda Shaw (Yorba Linda, Calif.) also recorded a hit on the evening.

All three Scarlet Knight pitchers made appearances with junior Chrissy Yard (Hillsborough, N.J.) earning the start while freshman Katye Hamlin (College Station, Texas) and sophomore Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) saw action in relief. Lindley led the way in the strikeout category, fanning four batters as Yard struck out three.
