LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Rutgers left-fielder Amanda Heller (Belle Mead, N.J.) was named to the 2008 All-BIG EAST Softball Second Team, the league announced Wednesday at the annual championship banquet held at the Marriot Downtown Louisville.
Heller was the only player on the squad this season to start all 55 games. The junior was second on the team with a .293 batting average, a .421 slugging percentage and nine doubles. Heller led the squad with an on-base percentage of .458, which ranked sixth in BIG EAST. In addition, she posted a team-high 36 walks, second-best in the conference. Heller also recorded six outfield assists from her leftfield position.
With the honor, Heller became the third Scarlet Knight in the past three seasons to be selected to one of the conference's three All-BIG EAST teams. Junior Brittany Loisel (Gilbert, Ariz.) earned third team honors in 2006, while classmate Sarah Kalka (Moreno Valley, Calif.) was named to the first team in 2007.
The Scarlet Knights completed the regular season with an overall record of 23-32 and a 7-15 mark in BIG EAST play, under second-year head coach Jay Nelson.
