Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Announces 2009 Recruiting Class

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's lacrosse signed three players to its 2009 recruiting class, head coach Laura Brand announced. Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.), Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) and Danielle Mascera (Verona, N.J.) will play for the Scarlet Knights starting in 2009.
McGinley is an attack from lacrosse powerhouse Moorestown High School. Her team won the state championships all four years she played, and she was named The Star-Ledger Player of the Year after posting 76 goals, 67 assists, 28 ground balls and 24 legal checks during her senior campaign. She finished her outstanding career with 152 goals and 117 assists, earning first team All-Burlington County honors her sophomore season, first team All-South Jersey honors her junior and senior years, as well as South Jersey Midfield Player of the Year and first team All-American in 2008.
Steinberg played on the varsity lacrosse team at Suffern High School since the eighth grade, accumulating 176 goals and 87 assists. She received All-Section honors her last four years, as well as All-County accolades her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. She was an Honorable Mention All-American her sophomore and junior years, and an All-American her senior season.
Steinberg also played varsity tennis, receiving first team All-Section, All-County, and All-League honors her junior year, where she lost in the final sixteen of the section tournament.
Mascera attended Verona High School in, where she had an amazing senior year, breaking her own record for goals in a season with 83, after scoring 76 goals her junior year. She also tallied 36 assists in 2008 after picking up a school-record 39 the previous season. Mascera finished her career with an all-time record 256 goals and 128 assists for 324 points. She was a team captain during both her junior and senior campaigns, a two-time first team All-County selection and a four-time first team All-Conference selection. She also received first team and second team All-Galaxy honors while playing for Tri-State Lacrosse. The Verona, N.J. native was a member of the US Lacrosse National Tournament Team One.
Mascera also served as team captain for both the volleyball and basketball teams. This season she was named Colonial Hills Conference Player of the Year while earning Conference first team honors in volleyball, where she also was named second team All-County and first team All-Conference.
Three other players have accepted admissions and will attend Rutgers next year. Rebecca Alley (Lebanon, N.J.), Kaitlyn Curran (North Brunswick, N.J.) and Lindsey Watts (Hillsborough, N.J.) plan to play for the Scarlet Knights in 2009.
Alley attended Voorhees High School and was named Express-Times Player of the Year in 2008 after tallying an impressive 124 points on a conference-best 85 goals as well as 39 assists. She was a three-time first team All-Conference selection, two-time Courier News first team All-Area selection and a two-time Express-Times first team All-Area selection.
Curran played four years of varsity lacrosse at North Brunswick High School, serving as team captain her senior campaign. She finished her career with 137 goals and 99 assists for 236 points. She was a three-time Home News Tribune first team All-Area selection, a 2008 first team All-GMC selection and she played for the Tri-State Club Team for three years. In 2007 she was named Tri-State National Tournament MVP.
Watts played both attack and midfield for Hillsborough High School, finishing her career with 209 goals, 38 assists, 140 ground balls and 80 draw controls. She served as team captain in 2008, earning U.S. Lacrosse All-American, first team All-Area and second team All-State honors. She was a three-time first team Skyland Conference member and she was named first team Somerset County in 2006. She also played varsity volleyball for three seasons, serving as captain her senior year.
