PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's lacrosse program was one of 50 schools that earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad honors, it was announced Monday. Teams that have a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher earn the distinction of being named Academic Squad.
RU also saw two of its student-athletes named to the IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll in juniors Rachel Doan (Dublin, Ohio) and Jackie Lerner (Lutherville, Md.). Players must have achieved at least junior year status and have a minimum GPA of 3.2 to qualify. A total of 159 student-athletes were named to the honor roll. Doan is an Exercise Science major who missed the 2008 season due to injury. Lerner, who majors in Journalism and Media Studies, appeared in four games and tallied an assist.
In July, Rutgers was recognized for its success in the classroom during the 2007-08 season, receiving the BIG EAST 2007-08 Team Academic Excellence Award, given to squads with the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport. The winners were chosen based on the 2007-08 grade-point average of each student-athlete that appears on an institution's squad list in that particular sport.
