Rutgers Volleyball Falls to Syracuse

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) posted a match-high 14 kills to go along with 10 digs, however the Scarlet Knights dropped a 3-0 decision to Syracuse in BIG EAST volleyball action at the College Ave. Gym on Sunday afternoon.

Saxton's 14 kills were the second best effort of her career, but a balanced Syracuse attack proved to be too much for the Scarlet Knights. RU falls to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST play, while the Orange improve to 8-8 and move to 1-0 in conference play.

Other standout performers for the Scarlet Knights included sophomore Lauren Voss (Hartland, Wis.) and freshman Hannah Curtis (Wasilla, Alaska) who each had nine kills. Junior Kyra Thompson (Tucson, Ariz.) had a team-high 12 digs.

Syracuse was led by Sarah Morton who had a team-best 11 kills. However, the conference leader in total blocks did not record any against the Scarlet Knights. April Quigley tallied a match-high 37 assists for the Orange.

Rutgers will return to the road next weekend for back-to-back BIG EAST matches. The Scarlet Knights will battle in-state rival Seton Hall on Saturday before taking on Villanova on Sunday in Philadelphia, Pa.
