EVANSTON, Ill. – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team was unable to overcome a potent Northwestern offensive attack as the No. 1 ranked Wildcats topped the Scarlet Knights 24-1 at Lakeside Field Saturday afternoon.
Rutgers, which is receiving votes in the latest IWLCA poll, had its two game winning streak snapped and falls to 3-3 on the year. Northwestern improves to 8-0 and extends its home winning streak to 46 consecutive games.
Sophomore Kristen Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) scored RU’s only goal of the day, while Northwestern was led by Hilary Bowen’s six scores. Freshman Annie McGinley (Moorestown, N.J.) assisted on Anderson’s goal.
Northwestern scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes, including three from Bowen, to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Anderson would tally her sixth goal of the year to get Rutgers on the board, but the Wildcats posted the next seven goals to enter halftime with a 14-1 lead.
The Scarlet Knights struggled offensively in the second half, only managing one shot.
Rutgers will wrap up its three-game road trip on Tuesday, March 17 at Notre Dame. The BIG EAST opener for the Scarlet Knights will begin at 7 p.m.
