Rutgers Softball Hosts Fairleigh Dickinson In Thursday Doubleheader

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Scarlet Knights will prepare to host Fairleigh Dickinson in a double header Thursday, April 23 at the Rutgers Softball Complex.
Heading into the match-up, Rutgers is 18-29, 3-15 in BIG EAST play. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Marist on Tuesday. Sophomore Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) led the charge against the Red Foxes, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam in game two to push RU up 8-0 going into the fifth inning. Senior Amanda Heller (Belle Mead, N.J.) also went 3-for-5 on the day with two runs scored.
Junior Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) and freshman Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) displayed outstanding performances in the circle for RU. Johnson pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and no earned runs for the 3-1 victory in game one. Lindley threw a one-hit shutout with three strikeouts for the triumph over the Red Foxes in five innings in game two.
Fairleigh Dickinson heads into the match-up 9-31, 4-12 in the Northeast Conference. Brianne Benedict leads FDU with seven doubles and 16 runs scored, hitting for a .336 average with 10 RBI and six stolen bases. Justina Augustine had a standout performance against conference rival Mount St. Mary’s in the Knights last match-up, going 5-for-8 at the plate. Augustine is batting a .291 average with 12 RBI and 11 runs scored. Caitlin Bradac led FDU in the circle of game one, allowing one earned run on six hits. Rutgers hitters will face a disciplined Bradac as she leads the staff with just 17 walks in 105 innings of work.
