Rutgers Field Hockey Opens 2009 Season

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey will commence the 2009 season on Friday, August 28, entertaining Drexel at 5:00 p.m. The game is the season opener for both squads.
The contest will be at the renovated Bauer Track and Field Complex on the Livingston Campus.
The Scarlet Knights return five starters from a team which posted a 14-6 record last fall. RU is picked sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Dragons were selected third in the Colonial Athletic Association preseason poll. Drexel finished 16-4 last season, including a 7-1 mark in league play. One of Drexel’s four losses came at the sticks of Rutgers. RU registered a 3-2 win in Philadelphia on Sept. 5, 2008, moving ahead in the all-time series, 5-4. Both teams received votes in the 2009 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I preseason poll released on Tuesday.
The Scarlet Knights will continue their homestand on Sunday, August 30 with a 1:00 p.m. contest versus West Chester.
