Rutgers Falls at Delaware 2-1

NEWARK, Del. - Rutgers field hockey dropped a 2-1 contest to Delaware on Friday afternoon at Rullo Stadium.
The Blue Hens (2-2) opened the scoring halfway through the first half when Casey Howard dribbled between a RU defender and freshman goalkeeper Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.), sneaking the ball into the bottom left corner of the cage.
Late in the first half, Rutgers (0-5) had two close-range opportunities both stopped by UD keeper Noelle Diana. Senior Brittany Bybel (Millville, N.J.) had her attempt in the 33rd minute kicked aside and deflected shot off the stick of Kat Rodziewicz (Ocean, N.J.) was also stopped to keep the Scarlet Knights off the board.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, UD pushed ahead 2-0 when Amanda McCardell corralled a bouncing ball five yards outside the mouth of the goal.
Rutgers scored its lone tally with 11 minutes left in the game when senior Jessika Hoh (Allentown, Pa.) made her between two defenders and the keeper to put one in the cage. The goal was the team-leading fourth of the season for Hoh.
RU is back in action on Sunday, Sept 13 taking on Temple in Philadelphia. The contest will be played at Buckley Field on the campus of Drexel University.
