Rutgers Incoming 2010 Class Garners Athletic, Academic Awards

10 members of the Rutgers women’s lacrosse recruiting class for the 2010 season were recognized for their high school athletic and academic achievements as they enter their first year at Rutgers. The recruiting class includes freshmen Rachel Welch (Medford, N.J.), Rachel Schneeberger, Stephanie Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.), Amanda Trendell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), Aimee Chotikul (Baltimore, Md.), Lindsay Harris (Ijamsville, Md.), Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.), and Stephanie Dickson (Smithtown, N.Y.) along with transfers Brittany Davis and Michelle Zaffuto.
Welch, a midfielder from Shawnee High School, finished her senior year leading her team as their solo varsity captain. She received honors as First Team Burlington County as well as Honorable Mention All South Jersey.
She was also a captain of the soccer team where she recorded three goals and three assists during her senior season and was named First Team All Olympic Conference and Second Team All South Jersey.
Schneeberger, a four year Scholar Athlete, finished her scholastic career totaling 151 goals, 74 assists, 141 groundballs, and 85 draw controls during her four years at Watertown High School. As a senior she was named varsity captain and received Frontier League All-Star and Frontier League All-North. Schneeberger was also captain of the varsity soccer team. She received numerous academic honors including Academic All-American, Unsung Hero Award, and was a member of the National Honors Society from 2008-2009.
Anderson, a captain and midfielder for Shoreham-Wading River High School, finished her senior year with her three-time New York State Champion team and was named Under Armor All American MVP after scoring a game-high three goals which helped lead her squad to a 12-9 victory during the Under Armor All-America Classic.
She was a 2009 All-American and was named to the Newsday All-Long Island first team. She also received Newsday Suffolk County Player of the Year.
Trendell, varsity soccer and lacrosse captain from Yorktown High School, earned All-Elite and All-League honors her senior year. She was a four-time sectional champion, a three-time regional champion, and as a senior she was a state finalist.
Trendell received honors as a First Team All-American as well as the North Country All-Star Team.
Chotikul participated in varsity lacrosse, boy’s soccer, and indoor soccer for Baltimore Lutheran School. She was the team MVP for lacrosse for three years and was captain her senior year. She was MVP all four years for her indoor soccer team and captain her junior and senior year.
Chotikul holds the school record for both the number of championships played (eight) and won (five). She was nominated as Senior Athlete in 2009 and inducted into the National Honor Society.
Harris, a former varsity lacrosse captain from Urbana High School, received honors from Frederick News Post as Defensive Player of the Year during her senior year. She also received Defensive MVP for Urbana High School her junior and senior year. Harris is a Monocacy Valley Athletic League First Team award winner. She was named Second Team All-Galaxy the summer before her senior year.
Academic honors received by Harris include Academic All-American, AP Scholar with Honors, and Maryland Scholar Athlete. She was senior class treasurer and participated in the National Honor Society also as treasurer.
Kalata, a goalkeeper from Smithtown East High School, earned MVP for her team as a senior. She was named Second Team Newsday All-Long Island and received all-county honors and was an All-American Honorable Mention.
As a senior, Kalata earned all-county and All-State Honors for field hockey and was named to the Newsday All-Long Island Team.
Dickson, an attack/midfield from Smithtown High School West, was all-county her senior year. She was named team MVP and Smithtown High School West Athlete of the Year.
She received academic honors including Academic All American, the New York State Scholar Athlete Team Award, and the Lou Antonetti Community Service Award.
Davis, a midfielder from the University of Delaware, appeared in 16 games and started two as a freshman. She was a four-year starter for the Shoreham-Wading River lacrosse team which won three consecutive Suffolk County Championships.
She was named All-American, all-county, and All-Long Island as a junior in 2006 and became team captain as a senior. Davis was also on the cross country team for three years.
Zaffuto, a transfer student from St. Joseph’s University, was varsity captain her senior year at Westfield High School. She received Defensive MVP her freshman and sophomore year of lacrosse. She was named team MVP and was first team all-county as a senior.
She also played club lacrosse for Tri-State where she received MVP honors for the Mercer County Tournament and was Second Team All-Galaxy.
