Rutgers Softball Announces 2011 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 26, 2010) – The Rutgers softball team released its 2011 schedule, head coach Jay Nelson announced Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights will face six 2010 NCAA Tournament participants and compete in five regular season tournaments.
RU will tour the United States in 2011, starting Feb. 18-20 in Riverside, Calif. Rutgers will face Minnesota, Loyola Marymount (twice) and host UC Riverside on the weekend. It is the first time the Scarlet Knights have begun their season in the Golden State since 1999.
Next up, RU travels to Corpus Christi, Texas to take on Arkansas, Texas Southern and host Texas A&M CC Feb. 24-26. The tournament will feature a semifinal and final round.
For the first weekend in March, the Scarlet Knights will face Canisius, Marist, Fairleigh Dickinson, Brown and Central Connecticut State in Hampton, Va.
Rutgers will spend spring break (March 11-20) in Florida, participating in the Florida Atlantic Tournament and the annual USF Tournament. At FAU, RU will take on Buffalo, Purdue, Florida Atlantic, Hofstra and Michigan State. The Scarlet Knights will take on Long Island University in Tampa on Tuesday, March 15. That Friday, March 18, RU faces Chattanooga, Florida Atlantic, Kent State, North Florida and Oklahoma State.
The squad returns north to play at Army on March 23. RU will open at home March 26-27 with a three-game series against Syracuse and a midweek match-up against Hofstra on March 30.
After a trip to Storrs, Conn. for a three-game BIG EAST series against Connecticut, the Scarlet Knights return home for a nine-game homestand. RU will play doubleheaders against Lafayette and Iona before taking on BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and South Florida at the RU Softball Complex.
After returning to New England for a three-game series at Providence (April 16-17), Rutgers takes on Stony Brook (April 19) and DePaul (April 22-23) at home. The final contest against DePaul will serve as Senior Day.
RU ends the regular season at Villanova for a doubleheader on April 27 and at Pittsburgh for a three-game series April 30-May 1.
The Scarlet Knights return 15 letterwinners from last season, including nine starters, from a team that reached its first BIG EAST Championship since 1998.
