Mar 09 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 9, 2010) – Senior midfielder Justin Pennington (Flemington, N.J.) of the Rutgers men’s lacrosse team was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week, the league office announced.
Rutgers has had a player honored by the conference each of the first three weeks of the season. Pennington and freshman goalie Rudy Butler (Belle Mead, N.J) were named to the conference’s honor roll last week and senior midfielder Gerhard Buehning (Essex Fells, N.J.) was named the first ever BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 23.
Pennington had a strong all-around performance in Rutgers’ 15-6 victory over St. Joseph’s last Saturday by posting three goals, an assist, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Five of the senior midfielder’s six shots were on goal. He has notched multiple points in five straight games dating back to last season. Pennington is tied for the team lead in goals (6) and second in points (8) this season.
Pennington’s all-around play has spearheaded Rutgers to the nation’s best scoring margin (9.33) and the third-best scoring offense (14.67) and scoring defense (5.33) in the country.
Pennington and the Scarlet Knights will be back in action this Saturday when they host Penn State on the RU Turf Field for a 1 p.m. game.
