
Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Hosts Monmouth In Midweek Action

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 6, 2010) – The Rutgers women’s lacrosse team will play its second of back-to-back home games on Wednesday, April 6, when it hosts Monmouth at 8 p.m. at the RU Turf Field.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 15-10 victory over BIG EAST foe Connecticut on Saturday. Rutgers received a pair of hat tricks from senior attacker Brooke Cantwell (Moorestown, N.J.) and junior attacker Kristen Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.).
Cantwell also added three assists, three ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Huskies. For her performance, Cantwell was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season.
The Scarlet Knights offense is led by Cantwell with 35 points on a team-best 25 goals and 10 assists. She also has a squad-leading 10 caused turnovers and is second with 23 draw controls. Junior midfielder Marlena Welsh (Jarrettsville, Md.) is second with 18 goals, followed by Anderson with 16 tallies. Senior attacker Meghan Flanagan (Medford, N.J.) leads RU with 13 assists, while sophomore midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) paces the team with 25 draw controls.
Steinberg set the Rutgers record for draw controls in a game with 10 in the win over Connecticut.
Senior midfielder Faith Richards (Montclair, N.J.) leads the Scarlet Knights defense with 16 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Freshman goalkeeper Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) has posted all 10 starts, boasting a 9.39 goals against average and .556 save percentage. Kalata’s save percentage ranks second in the nation, while her 110 saves on the season is sixth-most in the country.
Rutgers and Monmouth will meet for the eighth time on Wednesday with the Scarlet Knights undefeated 7-0 in the all-time series.
The Hawks are currently 5-7 on the season following a pair of road losses at Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. Monmouth is led offensively by a trio of players with 20+ goals on the season. Ali Pollock paces the squad with 24 goals, followed by Shawn Evans and Megan Brennan in a tie for second with 23. Pollock has a team-leading nine assists on the year.
Kirby Mundorf has started all 12 games in the cage for Monmouth with a 10.48 goals against average and .463 saves percentage.
