
Rutgers Incoming Freshmen Selected For US Lacrosse Champion Showcase

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 23, 2010) - A pair of incoming freshmen on the Rutgers women's lacrosse team have been selected to compete in the 2010 Champion High School Showcase, US Lacrosse announced. New Jersey natives Claire MacDougall (Moorestown, N.J.) and Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) will compete in the five-day event held as part of the ESPN RISE Games, presented by Target from July 17-22.
The showcase will take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Players were selected through the US Lacrosse women's division coaches council and the vast majority of players have earned US Lacrosse All-America honors during their high school playing careers.
The event features an opening ceremony on Saturday, July 17 with the game competition beginning on Sunday, July 18. Eighty players from 19 states have been selected to four teams that will compete in three pool play games before a championship game on Monday, July 19. The girls' consolation games and championship game will be available on the web at www.espn3.com.
MacDougall and Sbrilli are part of a nine-member recruiting class which will join the Scarlet Knights this fall. Rutgers finished the 2010 season 11-5 overall, including 4-4 in BIG EAST play and ranked 18th in the final regular-season IWLCA Poll. RU also saw a number of players earn various postseason accolades.
MacDougall was a three-year defensive starter; earning a First Team Burlington County Scholastic League (BCSL) selection as a sophomore and junior and First Team All-South Jersey pick her junior and senior year. She was a member of three of Moorestown's championship squads, winning titles in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions, Group III State, Group III Central Sectional and Burlington County Division championships. MacDougall was also a four-year varsity starter on the soccer team, earning Second Team BCSL honors as a junior and helping guide the squad to four-straight BCSL Championships.
Sbrilli, whose Bridgewater-Raritan team advanced to the semifinals of the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions in 2009, received Honorable Mention All-American and Second Team All State accolades that same year. Sbrilli was named First Team All-State following her senior season and was named to the First Team Skyland Conference on two occasions. She led all of New Jersey girl's lacrosse in goals scored with 125 in 2009 and was third in state in total number of points. Sbrilli competed on the Bridgewater-Raritan field hockey and basketball squads as well. A four-year starter in field hockey, Sbrilli was a Second Team Skyland Conference selection and third team All-Area.
