Patrone Lands on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Oct 17 | Field Hockey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 17, 2011) – Rutgers field hockey sophomore Lisa Patrone (Sewell, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office Monday.
The midfielder connected on her first goal of the season on Friday to help solidify a big 3-1 victory against league foe Providence. The goal came in the 34th minute on Patrone’s only shot of the afternoon when she carried the ball past the front of the net and blasted a shot to the right of the keeper’s pads. The win improved RU to 2-3 in conference play with one BIG EAST game remaining and tied Rutgers with No. 20 Louisville for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Patrone added her fourth assist of the year – second most on the team – in the Scarlet Knights’ only goal versus Lafayette. The Sewell, N.J. native found teammate Chelsea Rota (Langhorne, Pa.) on a long pass ahead of the pack, allowing Rota to turn and fire a shot into the cage.
This is the second time on the honor roll for Patrone, her last coming on Oct. 4, 2010 and marks the third RU player to earn a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this season.
Rutgers hits the road for the final time during the regular season this weekend when it travels to Amherst, Mass., to take on No. 14 Maine on Saturday at the University of Massachusetts. The Scarlet Knights conclude the weekend at Cornell.
