PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 24, 2011) – Rutgers field hockey sophomore Gia Nappi (Fairfield, N.J.) played her way onto the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Nappi and the Scarlet Knights rebounded from Saturday’s loss to No. 13 Maine with a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon versus Cornell. Nappi paced Rutgers with a goal – the game-winner – and an assist in the contest, surpassing her goal and point output from last season. Her six goals and 17 points are both team highs. The sophomore accumulated a game-high five shots in the win.
“It’s great that Gia was recognized for her efforts this weekend,” head coach Liz Tchou said. “The girls played well together on Sunday and we look to continue that this coming weekend.”
Rutgers returns home for its final weekend of the regular season. The Scarlet Knights host No. 4 Connecticut for a BIG EAST battle on Friday. Senior Day will follow on Sunday against No. 3 Maryland.
