PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 28, 2011) - Rutgers field hockey concluded its 2011 BIG EAST schedule against No. 4 Connecticut on a chilly Friday afternoon at Bauer Track and Field Complex. The Scarlet Knights could not hold off the Huskies who finish the regular season unbeaten in conference play and clinch the regular season BIG EAST title with the 5-0 victory against RU.
Rutgers (5-12) finishes league play with a 2-4 record for the second-straight season. UConn improves to a 16-1 overall mark and 6-0 in the conference.
The Huskies jumped out in front in the opening six minutes of action as a shot by Rayell Heistand was deflected off an RU defender's stick and into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
UConn added to its lead 4:32 later, again capitalizing on a penalty corner. Kim Krzyk stopped the ball for Jestine Angelini, who ripped a pass to Anne Jeute to tip in on the right side of the cage.
"Their percentage of goals off of corner sets is one of the best in the country," head coach Liz Tchou said. "We knew coming into the game that we had to limit their corners because of their exceptional execution. I was proud of our girls for creating scoring opportunities of our own, we just couldn't put any away."
Connecticut took a 3-0 advantage into the break following Angelini's third point of the half. Allison Angulo took the corner with Krzyk on the stop and Angelini beat keeper Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J) on a shot into the bottom right corner.
Jeute - the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week - added her second goal of the contest at the 37:10 mark of the second half. Marie Elena Bolles connected on the Huskies final goal of the match.
Junior Carlie Rouh (Berlin, N.J.) finished with a team-high three shots on the afternoon, placing all three on goal.
RU held a 5-4 advantage in shots and penalty corners in the second half but were unable to capitalize on any opportunities.
A tape delay of this afternoon's contest along with commentary by Danny Breslauer will be available on RVision tonight at ScarletKnights.com.
