PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 3, 2011) – Rutgers field hockey senior Nicole Gentile (Jamison, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office Monday.
Gentile scored the game-winner with 52, seconds left on Saturday afternoon to help complete the comeback victory against Georgetown. The forwards score was the third unanswered for the Scarlet Knights, lifting RU (3-8, 1-2 BIG EAST) to its first conference win of the season. Gentile ended the contest with a team-high six shots, placing four on goal.
“Nicole worked really hard,” head coach Liz Tchou said. “We’ve obviously been in a scoring slump as a team so it was really great to see Nicole get the winning goal against a BIG EAST team. She is a talented player and it is nice to see her get recognized.”
The goal also marked Gentile’s fifth point in a three-game span. The senior has eight points on the season, coming from three goals and two assists.
Rutgers returns to action with BIG EAST foe No. 19 Louisville on Saturday afternoon. The contest marks the second league match in the past three games for RU, the Scarlet Knights will conclude a critical stretch of its schedule with another conference matchup the following weekend versus Providence. RU is seeking its first victory against the Cardinals in six all-time matchups.
