
Rutgers Field Hockey Holds Annual Banquet

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 8, 2011)– The Rutgers field hockey team held its annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Busch Faculty Dining Facility.
The banquet served as an opportunity to reflect on the 2010 season and give out the program’s annual awards. Head Coach Liz Tchou hosted the banquet and gave out the awards.
Jenna Bull (Oakville, Ontario)was named the team’s most valuable player. Bull, who took home Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and First Team All-BIG EAST honors, totaled four points this season while providing lockdown defense from the midfield position and instrumental team leadership.
The Offensive Player of the Year award went to junior forward Nicole Gentile (Jamison, Pa.) who tallied a team-leading 23 points on 11 goals and one assist. Gentile also led the team with five game-winning goals.
Christie Morad (Marlton, N.J.)took home Defensive Player of the Year honors after a strong season on the backline. Morad tallied two goals and four assists on the season and recorded a defensive save while providing valuable leadership to the Scarlet Knights’ defensive corps.
Kat Rodziewicz (Ocean, N.J.)earned the team’s Academic Award, while Kaitlyn Plouse (Hummelstown, Pa.) took home the team’s Spirit Award.
The banquet concluded with speeches by Bull and fellow senior Heather Garces (Cream Ridge, N.J.) and a video tribute to the 2010 squad.
The 2011 Scarlet Knights will return 18 letterwinners and 10 starters, including their leading goal scorer and point getter, from a squad that advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2003.
