
Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Drops Tightly Contested Match At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 15, 2011) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse (7-5, 1-3 BIG EAST) dropped its road matchup with Louisville (9-4, 2-2 BIG EAST) 10-8 on Friday, April 15, at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.
Junior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) led Rutgers with three goals. Five other Scarlet Knights combined to provide the remaining five goals.
Rutgers took a 5-3 edge in the first half, however, Louisville reversed the momentum, outscoring the Scarlet Knights 7-3 in the second period to claim the victory. RU opened the game with four-straight goals, one each coming from Steinberg, freshman Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) and seniors Katherine Marino (Hillsborough, N.J.), and Kristen Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.).
Louisville responded with three goals of its own, cutting the RU lead to one goal (4-3). The Scarlet Knights maintained a two-goal advantage with another score with four seconds left in the first half.
A goal from senior Marlena Welsh (Jarrettsville, Md.) at the start of the second half put the Scarlet Knights ahead by three (6-3). The Cardinals went on 4-0 run, to take over the lead at 7-6. Louisville outscored Rutgers 3-2 over the final 15 minutes of the contest en route to the 10-8 win.
Rutgers will return to action on Sunday, April 17, against Cincinnati at 12 p.m.
