PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 18, 2011) – Winners of eight of its last nine contests, Rutgers softball (18-22) returns to the RU Softball Complex for a Tuesday doubleheader against Stony Brook (13-21). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Rutgers took its second-straight BIG EAST series over the weekend, sweeping Providence College on Saturday by scores of 8-1 and 10-1. Senior Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) led the way for the Scarlet Knights, batting at a .583 clip with a team-best seven RBI.
For the season, junior third baseman Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) leads the BIG EAST in batting average (.440), runs scored (40), total bases (94), on-base percentage (.545) and slugging percentage (.810). The junior also ranks in the top 10 in home runs (10), hits (51), doubles (13) and RBI (38).
In the circle, freshman Megan Williams (Richmond, Va.) has tallied the most wins for RU, owning a 9-6 record in 2011. Junior Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.) leads the pitching corps with a 5.20 ERA through 19 appearances.
Junior Bernadette Tenuto leads the Seawolves at the plate with a .350 batting average and 15 RBI. In the circle will be Colleen Matthes (9-13), who posts a 3.15 ERA with 122 strikeouts in 28 appearances. The winningest head coach in Stony Brook history, Megan Bryant is in her 11th season in the dugout.
All-time, Rutgers holds a slim 3-2 lead in the series between the two teams. Last season, RU split the doubleheader, falling in game one 2-0 and defeating SBU 3-0 in game two. Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.) and Lindley jacked back-to-back homers in the win last season.
