
Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Game At Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (April 1, 2011) –Rutgers women’s lacrosse (6-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) opened its four-game road trip with a 11-6 loss at Notre Dame (4-5, 1-0 BIG EAST) on Friday, April 1, in Arlotta Stadium.
Senior attacker Kristen Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) led the Scarlet Knights with three goals, while senior midfielder Shawn Lopez (Monkton, Md.) added two scores and freshman Lauren Sbrilli (Martinsville, N.J.) tallied a goal. Notre Dame outscored RU in 5-3 in the first half and 6-3 in second, en route to the win.
The Scarlet Knights and Irish traded goals to start the game, evening the score at 1-1. Notre Dame pulled away with back-to-back goals and RU narrowed the lead with a score from sbrilli to pull within one (3-2). However, a 2-1 tally over the final 10 minutes gave the Irish a 5-3 advantage at halftime. A four-goal run in the second half for Notre Dame increased the lead to 11-5. Lopez would get the final goal of the game on a free-position shot for the 11-6 final score.
Rutgers will return to action on Tuesday, April 5, when it travels to West Long Branch to take on Monmouth at 3 p.m.
