
Rutgers Softball Travels to Villanova for Midweek Clash

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 25, 2011) – Making a final push towards making the BIG EAST Tournament for the second-straight season, Rutgers softball (18-25, 6-8) heads to Villanova (15-28-1, 2-14) for a Wednesday doubleheader at the VU Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights are looking to get back to their winning ways after losing four-straight contests. Currently, RU sits seventh in the BIG EAST standings with five games left in the season. The last time out, Rutgers fell to DePaul by scores of 9-4 and 15-10 in 10 innings.
Junior Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) blasted two home runs in game two against the Blue Demons, tying Nikki Childress (2004) for the No. 2 spot on the RU all-time single season home run list with 12 round-trippers. Lindley is the all-time single season (13) and career (26) home run leader. The junior also extended her hit streak to a career-best 13 games against DPU.
On the season, Lindley paces RU and the BIG EAST in batting average (.449), home runs (12), total bases (106), on-base percentage (.553) and slugging percentage (.835). The third baseman also ranks in the top five in hits (57), runs score (44), doubles (13) and RBI (45).
In BIG EAST play, junior Lindsey Curran (Monroe, Twp., N.J.) has had the hot bat, hitting at a .414 clip with eight runs scored and seven RBI. Slugging at a .690 pace, the outfielder also has five stolen bases.
Megan Williams (Richmond, Va.) has paced RU in the circle, holding a 9-7 record with a 5.64 ERA. The freshman has struck out 40 batters and recorded two shutouts.
Pacing the Wildcats offensively is Kristi Burlin, hitting at a .331 clip with 28 RBI. In the circle, Caitlyn Delahaba owns a 3.36 ERA with a 7-18 record and 137 strikeouts. Maria DiBernardi is in her 27th season as the head coach of Villanova, amassing close to 700 wins. Villanova holds a slight edge in the all-time series, 18-15, although Rutgers has taken the last three meetings between the squads.
