
Rutgers Women's Lacrosse Hosts Villanova Tuesday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 25, 2011) – Rutgers women’s lacrosse (8-6, 2-4 BIG EAST) prepares for its matchup against BIG EAST foe Villanova (5-8. 1-4 BIG EAST) on Tuesday, April 26, at Yurcak Field at 7 p.m.
Heading into Tuesday night’s match-up against the Wildcats, senior midfielder Marlena Welsh (Jarretsville, Md.) paces the Scarlet Knights with 30 goals and 10 assists. She is joined by five others with double-digit goal totals. Junior midfielder Ali Steinberg (Suffern, N.Y.) is second on the squad with 30 points on 23 goals and seven assists. Steinberg leads the team with 30 draw controls and has 19 ground balls – most among field players.
Senior attacker Kristen Anderson (Wading River, N.Y.) is third on the squad with 27 points on 22 goals and five assists, while junior attacker Lindsey Watts (Hillsborough, N.J.) has 24 goals and two assists. Defensively, the Scarlet Knights are led by junior defender Rebecca Alley (Tewksbury, N.J.) who has 18 caused turnovers with freshman Chelsea Intrabartola (Commack, N.Y.) ranking second with 11, followed by Welsh with 10 caused turnovers.
In goal for the Scarlet Knights is sophomore Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) who is 7-6 on the season with a 8.90 goals against average and 89 saves.
Villanova is coming off a 14-13 home loss to Lafayette where senior Shana Lasda, sophomore Maria Bowman and sophomore Shannon Lane scored three goals apiece. Junior midfielder Justine Donodeo leads the wildcats with 33 goals and 12 assists, while Bowman is close behind tallying 18 goals and 12 assists. Lasda leads the team with 23 ground balls and 18 draw controls.
Rutgers defeated Villanova 14-6 in the last meeting on April 13, 2010 at Villanova. The Scarlet Knights are 17-0 all-time against the Wildcats.
