Piscataway, N.J. (April 4, 2011) - The Rutgers softball team (11-21) hosts Iona (8-12) Thursday at the RU Softball Complex in a midweek doubleheader. The doubleheader, which begins a seven-game home stretch for the Scarlet Knights, starts at 3 p.m.
In a win Sunday at BIG EAST foe Connecticut, junior Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) blasted the 22nd home run of her career, becoming the Rutgers all-time career home run leader. The third baseman passed Sarah Kalka (2006-09) for the most homers in program history.
Lindley paces RU with a .411 batting average and eight home runs this season. Tied for second all-time on the single season list, Lindley ranks second in the BIG EAST in home runs and first in on-base percentage (.509).
In the circle, Rutgers has been paced by junior Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.) with a 5.40 ERA through 16 appearances. Sophomore Abbey Houston (New Egypt, N.J.) has fanned a team-best 42 batters.
Rutgers is a perfect 2-0 all-time against Iona. The Gaels - who play Drexel twice Wednesday - are led by Alyssa Maiese, who is hitting .310 with 12 RBI. In the circle for IC will be Sarah Jackson, posting a 2.18 ERA with 77 strikeouts. Head coach of Iona in her first season is Roni Rivera, who previously served as the head coach of Muhlenberg and an assistant at Dartmouth College.
