PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 18, 2011) – Rutgers field hockey head coach Liz Tchou has announced the addition of transfer Christie Lonsky (Dingmans Ferry, Pa.) to the 2011 recruiting class. Lonsky links in with fellow signees Jenn Staab (Maramora, N.J.) and Sophie Annelise Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) to join an experienced Scarlet Knight roster that features 10 starters and 17 letterwinners from a year ago.
Lonsky arrives “On the Banks” after two seasons at Providence. The Dingmans Ferry, Pa. native appeared in 31 games at PC, tallying four goals and two assists. In her sophomore campaign Lonsky started 14 of her 17 games played, while accumulating five points on two goals and one assist. The midfielder notched the game-winning goal against California, leading the Friars to a 2-1 victory.
Prior to her time at Providence, Lonsky attended Delaware Valley High School where she led her team to a P.I.A.A. National Ranking in District 2 and advanced to the playoffs. Lonsky earned All-State Honorable Mention honors in three of her four high school seasons.
“When Christie visited Rutgers and met the players, she fit right in. Christie is a talented player with a lot of potential,” Tchou said. “It’s going to be great to be able to work with her throughout the year, to get her prepared for the 2012 season.”
Lonsky was also a member of the Warrior track team, serving as team captain for three seasons. Her relay team left their mark on the Lackawanna League, finishing as the 4x100 record holders.
Lonsky will sit out during the 2011 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will begin her career with the Scarlet Knights in 2012.
