
RU Field Hockey Falls Short Against Villanova, 2-1

VILLANOVA, Pa. (September 24, 2011) – Rutgers field hockey senior Mackenzie Noda (Allentown, Pa.) tabbed her second career goal on Saturday afternoon against BIG EAST foe Villanova but the Wildcats used a pair of goals to earn a 2-1 victory against the Scarlet Knights at Villanova Stadium.
VU improves to .500 (4-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) after winning two-straight, while RU falls to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST action in the midst of a six-game slump.
The Wildcats jumped out in front at the 12:31 mark with a Kristen Davila goal at the top of the circle following a corner by Jessica Swoboda. The score was the first of the season for the junior back.
The Scarlet Knights scored the equalizer with no time remaining on the clock in the first half. Noda notched her first goal of the season following a scramble in front of the net. Nicole Gentile (Jamison, Pa.) tallied an assist on the play.
Villanova struck for the game-winner in the 45th minute. Lauren Wilson notched her second goal in as many games on a shot inside of five yards.
Rutgers held the advantage in shots (11-9) and penalty corners (11-5).
The Scarlet Knights scoring struggles continued Saturday, marking the fifth consecutive game that RU failed to reach two goals.
The Scarlet Knights continue on the road tomorrow with a nonconference matchup against Bucknell. RU holds a 3-0 series advantage over the Bison. The contest is set for 2 p.m. at Graham Field.
