Rutgers Men's Lacrosse vs. Syracuse Set for ESPNU

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (February 1, 2012) - The Rutgers men's lacrosse team's April 14 match against BIG EAST opponent Syracuse has a new location and larger audience. The Scarlet Knights will face the Orange inside American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., as part of the ESPNU Warrior Classic.
First-year head coach Brian Brecht sees the event as an exciting opportunity for the Scarlet Knights.
"Rutgers is very excited to be part of such a prestigious event, and we want to thank ESPN, Warrior and New Balance for this opportunity," Brecht said. "Playing in a major league stadium and being part of a double header with three other top programs provides Rutgers with great national exposure, as well as giving our student-athletes an unbelievable experience that they will always remember."
The RU-SU game kicks off the Saturday of lacrosse inside the home of Major League Lacrosse's Charlotte Hounds , with Hofstra and North Carolina following with the second matchup at 1:30 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children, senior citizens and students with school ID. Group discounts will also be available at $12 per ticket (minimum 50 people). Last season, the Scarlet Knights and the Orange clashed in the ESPNU Warrior Classic that was held in Hartford, Conn., at Rentschler Stadium on April 23, 2011. RU took an early 1-0 lead off a goal from 2012 team co-captain Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.), but was unable to top Syracuse, falling by a score of 12-2.
The inaugural BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship will also air on ESPNU, with semifinal games on May 3 (4:30 p.m./7 p.m.) and the championship game on May 5 (noon) set to be broadcast from Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pa.
The Scarlet Knights begin their 2012 schedule on the road at Duke on Feb. 11. The visit to Durham, N.C., matches Rutgers against a squad that advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The game is set to begin at noon.
