Feb 27 | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 27, 2012) - Senior midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. The co-captain led RU in scoring with seven points over its two-game stretch at Wagner (Feb. 21) and against UMBC (Feb. 26). This is the first weekly honor for a Scarlet Knight in 2012 and the first under the watch of first-year head coach Brian Brecht.
"It's a great honor for Will and Rutgers men's lacrosse to have him receive this weekly conference honor," Brecht said. "As a team, you always need more than one person to do well to have success, but for the season so far and month of February, Will has been our best player and top performer."
Mangan scored the second hat-trick of his 2012 campaign and the third of his career in RU's visit to Wagner. His five total points (three goals, two assists) led Rutgers to a 9-5 win over the Seahawks. In action against UMBC, Mangan tied for the team lead with two goals. He scooped three ground balls in each of the games.
This the second time in Mangan's career he has been recognized in the league's weekly awards (Feb. 28, 2011).
RU continues at home with Lafayette on Saturday, March 3. Action is set to begin at the RU Turf Field at 1 p.m.
