Klimchak and Lusby Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 2, 2012) - Redshirt sophomore attackman Scott Klimchak (Clark, N.J.) and sophomore goalie Steven Lusby (Severna Park, Md.) were awarded BIG EAST Player of the Week honors, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. Klimchak claimed the offensive recognition after a four-goal performance in RU's 8-7 overtime win at league foe Providence on March 25, including the game-winner. Lusby took defensive honors after making 13 saves in the victory over the Friars.
First-year head coach Brian Brecht commented on the two Scarlet Knights' awards, which stand as the fourth and fifth times this season a Rutgers player has been recognized by the league.
"These are great honors for both Scott and Steven as student-athletes," Brecht said. "Scott was a huge part of our offensive success this past weekend and helped us earn our first conference win on the road. His composure and sharp shooting were the difference in the game.
"Steven has been great for the past few weeks and outstanding this past weekend in goal for us. Out of his 13 saves, none was bigger than with 30 seconds left while we were a man down. He has been a leader on the defensive end and has really helped our clearing and transition game."
Klimchak scored his fifth career hat trick in the win at Providence, totaling four points and one ground ball in the game. The honor is Klimchak's second career league recognition and first player of the week accolade. He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the week of Feb. 21, 2011.
Lusby scored the first conference award of his career by anchoring RU's defensive efforts against the Friars. His 13th save proved to be the most important, with the Scarlet Knight stopping a Providence man-up opportunity with less than one minute left to send the contest to overtime. Lusby also recorded two ground balls in the night game.
RU next hosts No. 18 Villanova at Yurcak Field on Saturday, April 7. The conference clash will be broadcast live on RVision, presented by AT&T, with action set to begin at 1 p.m.
