PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 30, 2012) - Senior midfielder Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. The co-captain scored four points from three goals and one assist in league action at Georgetown to close Rutgers' season. The performance was Mangan's fifth hat trick of his final RU campaign.
First-year head coach Brian Brecht commented on Mangan's performance at GU and his overall season.
"Will has been our most consistent and productive player all year," Brecht said. "This is a great and fitting honor for him to end the 2012 season with. We are going to miss what Will brought to practice and game day next year, but I am confident our returning players have been able to learn from him. They've seen firsthand what is needed, both on and off the field, to be successful at the highest level."
Mangan's outing against the Hoyas brought his team-leading season total to 40 points off 30 goals and 10 assists. His 2.00 goals per game average currently ranks second in the conference. Mangan proved to be one of the biggest offensive threats in the BIG EAST, averaging a league-leading 7.47 shots per game.
This is the fourth time in Mangan's career he has been recognized in the league's weekly awards. Scarlet Knights were honored 10 times by the conference in 2012.
