
Rutgers Field Hockey Releases 2012 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (July 2, 2012) - The Rutgers field hockey team announced its 2012 schedule Monday under first-year head coach Meredith Long. The slate features six teams that finished 2011 ranked in the top 20 by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), including three top-five teams.
The Scarlet Knights are scheduled to host nine home matches at Bauer Track and Field Complex, including three BIG EAST teams. The conference sent two of its teams to the NCAA Tournament last year. Live stats will be available, and several games will be televised on RVision, presented by AT&T. The RVision schedule will be released in the near future.
After RU hosts a preseason scrimmage against Virginia Commonwealth, the squad officially opens the 2012 season the weekend of Friday, August 24, against a tough Albany squad, that finished the 2011 season ranked as the No. 14 team in the nation. Following the Friday match, Rutgers faces Boston University on Sunday, Aug. 26, a team that was ranked No. 13 at the end of 2011.
In a pair of weekend games, the Scarlet Knights round out August on the road for a Friday game against Monmouth University, and kick off September back at home for a Sunday match against Temple. The following weekend takes Rutgers back on the road to face a Maine squad that finished No. 17 in 2011, followed by Bryant (at Maine) the next day.
The Scarlet Knights kick off conference action on Saturday, Sept. 15, facing a solid Connecticut team that made a NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing fifth in the nation. In a quick turnaround, Rutgers travels to Yale for next-day play against Sacred Heart.
RU returns home to Bauer Track and Field Complex for a four-game stretch highlighted by two BIG EAST opponents. The first features the 2011 No. 3 nationally-ranked Syracuse on Friday, Sept. 21, followed by Cornell on Sunday, Sept. 23. To finish out September, the squad hosts BIG EAST opponent Villanova the following Saturday with a quick turnaround to see Bucknell on Sunday.
For its first outing in October, the Scarlet Knights head south to face BIG EAST opponent Georgetown on Friday, Oct. 5 at the University of Maryland. A game against Louisville on Friday, Oct. 12 the next weekend is the second of three BIG EAST matches for the month of October, followed by a road game Sunday against Lafayette. The Scarlet Knights stay on the road for games at Providence on Friday, Oct. 19, and Brown on Sunday, Oct 21. RU travels back down to the University of Maryland on Friday, Oct. 26, to take on the back-to-back National Champions.
Rutgers finishes out the regular season at home for the second year in a row on Sunday, Oct. 28 against Columbia.
