PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2013) - In a thrilling finish, the Rutgers field hockey team defeated future Big Ten counterpart Indiana, 1-0, in Bloomington, Ind., Sunday. Sophomore Katie Champion (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored with just 1:14 remaining in regulation to secure the win for the Scarlet Knights.
RU improved to 9-6 on the season, while Indiana fell to 7-8. The Scarlet Knights posted 10 shots on goal, compared to just two for Hoosiers. Seven different Rutgers players put shots on goal. RU held an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The Scarlet Knights are now 3-0-1 against the Hoosiers.
In a game that went scoreless throughout, Champion scored the game-winner from the open field with 1:14 left on the clock, securing the win.
The Scarlet Knights next welcome BIG EAST foe Providence on Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
