
Rutgers Field Hockey Falls to Providence, 3-0

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 25, 2013) - The Rutgers field hockey team surrendered a 3-0 loss to BIG EAST foe Providence on Friday afternoon at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The Scarlet Knights held an 8-7 advantage in penalty corners.
RU dropped to 9-7, with a 2-4 mark in the BIG EAST. The Friars improved to 8-7 and 3-3 in the conference. Rutgers GK Sarah Stuby (Roxbury, N.J.) posted eight saves in the contest.
For the Scarlet Knights, freshman Sofia Walia (Surrey, British Columbia) notched two shots on goal, while freshman Ashpal Kaur Bhogal (Leeds, England), sophomore Katie Champion (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.), junior Sophie Wright (Devizes, United Kingdom) and freshman Rachel Yaney (Bridgewater, N.J.) each recorded one. Walia and Wright accumulated three total shots apiece in the game.
Providence held a 1-0 lead at the half as Salene Shaffer scored 27:59 into the first half. In the second half, the Friars' Daniella Bernasconi scored in the 47th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Providence's Henni Tietze scored with just two seconds left in the game to secure the 3-0 victory.
Rutgers is back in action on Friday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m., taking on Old Dominion at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
